AXID 75MG TABLET

Generic Name: NIZATIDINE (nye-ZAT-ih-deen)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Axid

USES: This medication blocks secretion of acid from the stomach. It is used to treat and prevent ulcers, to treat gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), and to treat conditions associated with excessive acid secretion.

HOW TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION: This medication may be taken without regard to meals. Do not increase your dose, take this more often than prescribed or stop taking this without first consulting your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS: Sleepiness, fatigue or sweating may occur. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop a rapid or pounding heart beat, pale stool, diarrhea, mental confusion, easy bruising, vision changes or joint or muscle pain while taking this drug.

In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing liver disease, kidney disease or any allergies, including any drug allergies.

Smoking may cause intestinal problems (e.g., ulcer) to reoccur, hindering the effects of this medication. Elderly persons may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this drug.

Nizatidine is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medications you are taking, including itraconazole and ketoconazole.

NOTES: For best results, this medication is often used along with lifestyle changes such as stress-reduction programs, exercise and dietary changes. Talk to your healthcare professional about changes- that you can benefit from. Laboratory tests may be done periodically while taking this medication to monitor results and prevent side effects.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F or 15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and moisture.
