Reasons Why MEN must Quit Smoking

Although there are many reasons why people quit smoking, including the reasons listed below, our main goal is to get you to develop your OWN reasons why YOU MUST quit.  Unfortunately, many people quit only after they have developed permanent disease from smoking.  WE NEED YOU TO QUIT BEFORE THIS HAPPENS.

For all smokers

  • cost of cigarettes
  • Greater feeling of well-being
  • Improved ability to exercise
  • May be able to work to an older age, with less illness
  • may live ling enough to enjoy retirement and grandchildren

For Parents

  • Increased incidence of coughing and respiratory tract infections among chidren of smokers
  • Poor role model for child
  • Infants exposed to your smoke have twice the ear infections, coughs, colds, pneumonia, and bronchitis as infants who are not exposed to second hand smoke

For a New Smoker

  • Easier to quit now

For Long-term Smokers

  •    Decreased risk of heart disease and cancer if smoking stopped

For Smokers With a Family History of Heart Disease, Cancer, and Other Smoking-Related Diseases

  • Risk of death increased even more by smoking

For Symptomatic Adults

  • Correlate current symptoms with
    • Angina
    • Claudication
    • Shortness of Breath
    • Heart-burn
    • gum disease
    • Osteoporosis
    • Sore Throats
    • Ulcers
    • Upper respiratory tract infection and cough
For Adults Without Symptoms
  • Bad Breath
  • Cost of Cigarettes
  • Cost of sick time
  • Inconvenience and social unacceptability
  • Lifespan shortened by 5 to 8 years
  • Six times the risk of emphysema
  • Ten times the risk of lung cancer
  • Twice the risk of heart disease
  • Prematurely wrinkles the face and increases the amount of wrinkles
